A Testimony of Deliverance
Posted in: Blog, LACC, Missions, Venezuela

Remember the old Johnny Cash song, “I’ve been everywhere, man. I’ve been everywhere”? I found myself singing thatsong more than once as I traveled from country to country visiting & ministering in Latin America ChildCare (LACC)schools and events this past year. Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela and Haiti just to mention a few.But the travels always bring a testimony and example of why we do what we do. It reminds me of why we carry the Gospel to the barrios & communities that need to hear about and experience the Kingdom of God.
Many times we have shared with you testimonies of children who’s lives have been transformed by the ministry of LACC, but let me briefly tell you about a lady I met on a recent trip to Caracas, Venezuela. Read More

Human Trafficking

What is Latin America ChildCare Doing to Prevent It?

One of the absolute scourges of the world in which we live today is that of human trafficking. Human trafficking is the sale & transport of one human being to another for the purpose of forced labor and profit.
The numbers are staggering as we realize that some 30 million persons this year will be bought, sold or traded from one person to another for their selfish and most likely illicit business.
In most cases the victim is a girl or woman that is forced into some sort of labor in the sex trade. Forced to sell their bodies and rob them of their innocence and dignity for the twisted desires and financial gain of another.
It is estimated that 10% of the 30 + million people who are trafficked take place in Latin America & the Caribbean, where Latin America ChildCare works.
In a recent news article on cnn.com, it stated that in Mexico, human trafficking is a $15 – $20 billion a year endeavor – second only to drug trafficking. The news article clarified by saying that this was a conservative estimate and that the financial gain was most likely quite a bit more for those involved.
Besides a depraved mind, what motivates people to participate in such God forsaken behavior? Read More

Building a New House for Jesus
Posted in: Costa Rica, LACC, Missions
One of the joys that our family has, is working on behalf of those who can in no way pay us back. For all of the close to 20 years of working on the mission field throughout Latin America & the Caribbean we have had the joy of working with Latin America ChildCare and helping to transform the lives of literally thousands upon thousands of children. Most of these children come from some of the poorest communities of the countries that they live in yet are so appreciative of the help that we, along with many who stand with us as supporters, are able to give them. They can’t repay us in any way except to say thank you and of course, the knowledge that we have been the hands of the Lord extended to them. One such example is a family in Costa Rica. Last month (June 2010) I along with Lori & Trevor spent a little over a week back in the country that we began our missionary career. We were hosting a fantastic group from the Alabama District working at two of our LACC schools.
There is a family at the Linda Vista School that really is a perfect picture of the type of child and family that we want to make a difference in. A single mother with 6 children, living in the most horrible of surroundings. All 6 children attend the school, but one in particular has even a greater need. Anabelle is 11 years old but her physical development is much younger than that due to a heart problem that she has had for many years. The condition not only has affected her physical development but her intellectual development as well as she is only in the second grade.

New LACC Project – Cintalapa, Mexico
Posted in: Blog, LACC, Mexico, Missions
This week I am traveling looking at a few new project possibilities for Latin America ChildCare schools in Mexico. Let me tell you about the newest project in Cintalapa, Chiapas which is located in the southern part of Mexico.
A few years ago I got a phone call from Leticia, the pastor of a church in Cintalapa. Leticia has pastored this church for close to 15 years and has been a faithful servant of the Lord. She had also worked a few years ago at one of our other LACC schools, which is located in Tuxtla Gutierrez, about an hour from where she pastors. Leticia shared with me her vision to start a Christian School where the children could not only receive a quality education, but one based in Christian principles that can transform the lives of the children that would attend. I’m reading a book by Bob Buford entitled “Halftime”. The premise of the book is that he spent the first half of his life being successful. He built a flourishing business, earned all the money he needed and was admired by many in what he had accomplished. His personal, business & spiritual life were the model of success. The second half of his life he wanted to move from success to significance making a lasting impact & legacy that would far outlast any personal success and even his years spent on this earth.
Buford states; “None of us knows when he will die. But any of us, if we wish, may select our own epitaph. The one Buford has chosen for himself is simple – 100X.
100X means “100 times”. Taken from the parable of the sower in Matthew 13.
3 Then he (Jesus) told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9 He who has ears, let him hear.”
Simply stated, Buford wants to be remembered as a seed that was planted in good soil and was multiplied a hundred fold. That’s exactly how I want to live. As I live my passion, my commitments to my family and the ministry that God has placed in my care, I want to leave a legacy that is a symbol of a higher yield both in my life and in my death. Fruit that will remain not just in the short term – but for an eternity.
100X — An epitaph that is not just carved into the granite stone of a tombstone, but that lives in what I have accomplished through how I lived my life and lasts for an eternity.
